Olympia Dukakis stars as <i>Rose</i>

Academy Award-winner Olympia Dukakis will reprise her Drama Desk-winning performance of Rose at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12 in Zoellner Arts Center’s Baker Hall.
In a concert reading that reprises her riveting performance, Dukakis retells a century-long Jewish odyssey from a Ukrainian shtetl to the Warsaw ghetto and finally to Miami Beach in Martin Sherman’s funny and touching play. The Evening Standard of London raved that Dukakis’ “triumph of a performance scales the heights.”
A free, pre-show lecture will take place at 6 p.m. in Zoellner room 145, featuring Chava Weissler, the Philip and Muriel Berman Chair of Jewish Civilization who teaches Jewish studies in Lehigh’s religious studies department.
Her portrayal of Cher’s Italian mother in Norman Jewison's film Moonstruck earned Olympia Dukakis an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. The role also garnered Dukakis the New York Film Critics' Award, Los Angeles Film Critics' Award and Golden Globe Award.
Her many other film credits include Mr. Holland’s Opus, Steel Magnolias, and Look Who’s Talking. Her TV credits range from Dr. Kildare to the mini-series Sinatra to The Simpsons. Dukakis has graced stages around the globe, and her theater awards include an Outer Critics Circle Award and an Obie.
