Message from President Gast about the Northern Illinois University tragedy
We extend our deepest sympathy and support to our colleagues and friends at Northern Illinois University in this time of sadness. We send our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and those who were wounded in this horrible tragedy.
I want to assure you that the safety of our campus community is our most important priority. We are confident that our existing campus safety and community awareness programs make our campus as safe as possible. We regularly review and revise our existing emergency preparedness plans to ensure we are prepared to the best of our abilities to effectively maintain the personal safety of our campus community and to respond to situations as needed. Sadly, no community can be totally free of risk; however, together as a community, we can work in partnership to ensure the safety of our students, faculty and staff members.
For those of you who may be struggling or need to talk to someone, there are a number of resources available to you, including the following:
Students:
University Counseling and Psychological Services (610) 758-3880
Dean of Students Office (610) 758-4156
Faculty and Staff:
Human Resources Employee Assistance Program (EAP) (800) 395-1616
In addition, our Emergency Information Web site provides emergency preparedness information and a number of resources for all campus community members.
Our thoughts will remain with the Northern Illinois University community and those who have lost loved ones and who are suffering from this tragedy.
