Meet our new faculty, part I

New faculty members for the Fall 2005 semester include Catherine Arrington, assistant professor of psychology; Margaret Barber , assistant professor of health and human services; Filbert Bartoli, professor and chair of the department of electrical and computer engineering; Reetika Gupta, assistant professor of marketing; Breena Holland, assistant professor of political science; Bruce Koel, professor of chemistry; Nevena Koukova, assistant professor of marketing; Deborah Laible, assistant professor of psychology; Erin Moore, assistant professor of accounting; Heibatollah Sami, professor of accounting; and Xiaofeng Sun, assistant professor of mathematics.
Joining the faculty for the Spring 2006 semester will be Robert Booth, assistant professor of earth and environmental sciences; Kai Landskron, assistant professor of chemistry; Dmitri Vezenov, assistant professor of chemistry; and Jonathan Wynn, assistant professor of earth and environmental sciences.
In addition, R. Michael Burger, assistant professor of biological services, will join the Lehigh faculty in Fall 2006.
Catherine Arrington

	Arrington

Arrington received her doctorate in cognitive psychology from Michigan State University, her master’s degree in psychology from Wake Forest University, and bachelor’s degrees in psychology and chemistry from Furman University. She joins Lehigh after postdoctoral work at Vanderbilt University. Arrington’s research interests include mechanisms of control in multitask environments, endogenous and exogenous orienting of spatial and object-based attention, and neural basis of cognitive control. In addition to a number of publications, she received the National Institute of Mental Health National Research Service Award from 2003 to 2006.
Margaret Barber

	Barber

Barber joins Lehigh from the University of San Diego, where she has been program coordinator of the Educational Leadership Development Academy and a teaching fellow since 2001. Barber received her doctorate in educational leadership and master’s degree in educational administration from Columbia University, and her bachelor’s degrees in English literature and American cultural studies from Bates College. Her research interests include principal transformation leadership on three domains of teacher outcomes: motivation, empowerment, and morality. She is a board member of the West Coast Center for the A.K. Rice Institute for the Study of Social Systems.
Filbert Bartoli

	Bartoli

Bartoli received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering and his doctorate in physics from the Catholic University of America. He joins Lehigh following a position as Program Director for Electronics, Photonics, and Device Technologies with the Electrical and Communications Systems Division of the National Science Foundation. His research interests include, but are not limited to, photonics, organic optoelectronics, nonlinear optical devices, ultrafast processes, electro-optical devices, display technologies, and infrared sensors. Bartoli has more than 300 publications in refereed publications and presentations. In addition, he holds 18 patents.
Robert Booth

	Booth

Booth joins Lehigh from the University of Wisconsin following his postdoctoral work in the Center for Climatic Research. He received his doctoral degree in biology from the University of Wyoming, his master’s degree in biology from Georgia Southern University, and his bachelor’s degree in biology from Pennsylvania State University. His research interests include ecosystems, climate matters, paleoecology, paleontology, and ecology. The author of a number of publications, Booth holds grants from both the National Science Foundation and the United States Geological Survey.
R. Michael Burger

	Burger

Burger received his doctorate in zoology at the University of Texas at Austin and his bachelor’s degrees in psychology and anthropology from Ithaca College. He joins Lehigh following his postdoctoral work at the University of Washington. The recipient of the National Institute of Health’s National Research Service Award from 2000 to 2003 and the Zoology Scholarship Endowment for Excellence, Burger’s research interests include vertebrate physiology, auditory neuroscience, and experimental psychology. He is a
member of the Society for Neuroscience, the Association for Research in Otolaryngology, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Reetika Gupta

	Gupta

Gupta earned her doctorate in marketing from Baruch College, City University of New York, completed her post-graduate program in marketing communications at the Mudra Institute of Communications in India, and received her bachelor’s degree in economics from Delhi University in India. Gupta’s research interests include consumer behavior in interactive consumption environments, consumer learning of new products, the role of technology in marketing, and internet marketing. She has taught at Fordham University, the Baruch Overseas Executive MS Marketing Program in Taiwan, and Baruch College.
Breena Holland

	Holland

Holland received her doctorate and master’s degree in political science from the University of Chicago and bachelor’s degrees in the areas of environmental science and jurisprudence and social policy from the University of California, Berkeley. Her teaching and research interests include American politics, political theory, and statistical methods. In addition, Holland is also interested in environmental law, politics, policy, and theory. She was the recipient of the Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship for 2002-2003, the Eisenhower/Clifford Roberts Dissertation Fellowship for 2001-2002, and the Searle Fellowship for 1996-2000.
Bruce Koel
Koel joins Lehigh from the University of Southern California, where he has taught since 1990. In addition, he has taught at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and was a Miller Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley. He received his doctorate in chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin and his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in chemistry from Emporia State University. Along with authoring more than 200 publications, Koel has spoken at technical meetings, universities, and laboratories worldwide. His research interests involve surface processes and he holds a patent in layered nanofabrication.
