Lehigh runs well at Paul Short

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh hosted the 30th annual Paul Short Invitational on from the Goodman Campus, and once again it was a tremendous success as 65 collegiate teams came along with 31 high school teams. The Lehigh men put together a great race and came in tenth place, which is one of the best in school history. The women were without several key runners and struggled to a 20th place finish.
On the men’s side in the 8K race, Steve Sundell of Columbia won for the second consecutive year as he crossed the finish line in a time of 24:08. The top Lehigh finisher was sophomore Rob Hampson, who came in 31st place with a time of 25:12. Other Mountain Hawks to place were Tyler Spencer ((68), freshman Victor Vientos (72), junior Sam Kirk (75), and junior co-captain Alex Hudgins (80). The Georgetown Hoyas took home the team crown with a score of 31, and they were followed by Princeton, James Madison, Penn and Columbia to round out the top five.
On the women’s side in the 6K race, Georgetown, also won with 28 points, and the Hoyas were followed by West Virginia, Tennessee, James Madison and Villanova. The top Lehigh finisher was junior Andrea Luebbe in 61st place with a time of 22:29 and she received help from Mountain Hawk teammates Chrissy Boyd (109), Jenna Breidinger (111), Sarah Seiler (113) and Catherine Kendig (134). Megan Metcalfe of West Virginia won her second consecutive Paul Short run, crossing in a time of 20:38.
Lehigh returns to action on Friday, October 17 when they travel west to compete in the Duquesne Invitational. The women’s race gets underway at 3:45 followed by the men at 4:30.
