Lehigh Observes Veterans Day

In observance of Veterans Day, Lehigh treated active, reserve and retired members of the military services to lunch on Friday in the University Center.

In a contracting ceremony during the luncheon, 12 cadets were sworn into the Lehigh Valley Steel Battalion.

The newest cadets are Zeng Zeng Yang, James Donahue, Matthew Rothman, Lucas King, Jake Cohen, Kevin Loughlin, Seth Rawlins, Jeff KordenBrock, Matt Roussel, Alexandra Rooney, Maria Giambruno Fuge and  Dominique Voitek.

Lehigh’s ROTC program, one of the first in the country, began in September 1919 under the direction of President Henry Drinker, who supported the notion of military instruction even before the National Defense Act of 1916 established ROTC. The university initially required all physically qualified students to complete the basic ROTC course to graduate. The program became voluntary in 1961.
