Henri Barkey, chair of the international relations department at Lehigh, was interviewed concerning the Kurdish outrage surrounding the U.S.'s plan to send 10,000 Turkish troops to Iraq. Look at the contradiction here, said Barkey. The Iraqis now have an interim foreign minister who's a Kurd, who's attending the Arab League meeting in Cairo. He's there to represent Iraq, and we say he has full power. Some Arab countries did not want to even accept him. We put pressure on them. And then we say what these guys think is not important, we're going to decide who comes in (to Iraq).

US security guards in israeli conflict
Barkey was also interviewed during a broadcast that aired to all of Australia concerning the death of U.S. security guards in the Israeli conflict. Barkey said he believes the attack will galvanize the weight of public opinion against the Palestinians. I think it's very significant because it will consolidate the American opinion with respect to the Palestinians' ability to deal with extremist groups, he said.

Lehigh University students teetering for worthy causes
A gust blew along Packer Avenue at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday as a radio played and four shivering Lehigh University students went up and down on a large blue seesaw outside Fairchild-Martindale Library. Members of Lehigh's Sigma Chi and Alpha Omicron Pi
sorority joined forces to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network and the American Juvenile Arthritis Organization by seesawing for 50 straight hours.

Santoro named head wrestling coach at Maryland
Pat Santoro, who has been assistant wrestling coach at Lehigh for nine years, has been named head coach at the University of Maryland. Lehigh head coach Greg Strobel, Santoro's boss for the past eight years, was pleased, yet saddened, by Santoro's opportunity. We've been grooming him for this for years…this is a tremendous opportunity for Pat, and I think he will make a huge impact there.
