Fletcher Christy Hanks is 86 years old, but he is as excited as a
child about what will likely be the last great adventure of a life that already reads like fiction. Hanks, who graduated from Lehigh in 1941, is on a 30-to-90-day expedition to the Hump, a remote and inhospitable triangle of the Himalayas bordered by China, India, and Burma where he and other U.S. civilian pilots played out a daring and often unsung chapter of World War II.

Helping veterans win on a new front: the marketplace
The Pennsylvania Small Business Development Centers, including the Center at Lehigh, will hold a one-day Veterans Small Business Training and Outreach conference in conjunction with other public and private sector companies and government agencies. At the conference, entrepreneurs will learn the ins and outs of selling products and services to the government from large businesses, successful veteran entrepreneurs, and Government procurement specialists.

Lehigh alum Warren V. Musser joins Health Advocate, Inc. Board of Directors and becomes senior advisor to company
Health Advocate, Inc., the nation's leading health advocacy and
assistance company, announced that Warren V. Pete Musser, who graduated from Lehigh with a B.S. in industrial engineering from Lehigh, will join its Board of Directors as the first outside director and will also become a senior advisor to the company.

Middle East's history holds keys to a second chance
Eli Schwartz, professor emeritus of finance and economics at Lehigh, wrote an Op-ed on the violent extremist Islamists who vent their jealousy and hatred by dealing in death. It is hard to deal with these fanatics. They yearn for a time that never really was, and if they should achieve the shadowy goal of a pure Islamic hegemony, the majority of Muslims would not enjoy living there, Schwartz wrote.

Legends Marilyn Horne and Barbara Cook will sing their mutual
admiration in a Zoellner duet on October 18 at Zoellner Arts Center. Cook, Horne, and a 43-piece orchestra of area musicians will perform American standards in Just Between Friends: Selections from the American Songbook.

'Queer Eye's' Carson Kressley comes home for gay film fest
Queer Eye star Carson Kressley grew up gay in rural Claussville, Lehigh County, and went on to become the reigning queen of television makeovers. Kressley is scheduled to give a boost to the Lehigh Valley Queer Film Festival. The program will take place at 7 p.m. October 25 in Lehigh University's Packard Auditorium, and it will be hosted by Paul Willistein of RCN's The Movie Show.

Art exhibits
Lehigh will present four art exhibits in the next few months. The first, the Lehigh Art Alliance Juried Exhibition, will feature mixed media at the Mountaintop Campus through October 24. The second, Issues of Cultural Identity & Perspective in Contemporary Russian and American Art, Russia's largest contemporary art show of the decade, will include a selection of 70 innovative screenprints by more than 20 artists, in
Zoellner Arts Center through December 21. And Forgotten Cuban Master: Works by the master painter/printmaker, and Blanka Sperkova: Poetry Made of Wire, will both be on display at Dubois Gallery in Maginnes Hall through December 13.
