Lehigh for Life

We are now less than a month away from the official inauguration of Lehigh’s 13th president, Alice P. Gast. The entire campus community—undergraduate and graduate students, parents, faculty, staff and friends—will gather in Stabler Arena to witness this historic event.

I strongly encourage all of you to attend. The inaugural events begin on Thursday, April 12 with an academic symposium featuring outstanding scholars from Lehigh and other major universities. On Friday, the inauguration ceremony begins at 2 p.m., followed by a fair with food and music for all event attendees. A Family Day of Service will be held on Saturday, April 14, featuring a 5K run/walk, the dedication of a community garden and an expanded version of the annual Spring Fling event for community children. For those of you who are unable to attend the event, the academic procession and Dr. Gast’s remarks will be videotaped and placed on the Inauguration Web site shortly thereafter.

On May 2, the Lehigh Club of New York honors a distinguished recipient with its prestigious “L-in-Life” Award. This year the 61st recipient, and the first female winner, will be Karen L. Stuckey ’75. The purpose of the “L-in-Life” Award, established in 1939, is to recognize a Lehigh alumnus for outstanding achievements in their professional life and for continued devotion and loyal service to the university.

I hope that you are already thinking about summer, because we are! This year, students and alumni will come together for a very special weekend that will be “Linked by Tradition.” Reunion 2007 will take place on May 18-19 and Commencement will take place on May 20-21. Gather with your classmates to show the Class of 2007 what it really means to be Lehigh for Life! The 50-year class, the Class of 1957, will be honored during the commencement ceremony. During the inauguration weekend, the association’s board of directors will meet to conduct business and offer recommendations about Alumni Association programs. If you are interested in getting involved with the Alumni Association in any way, let us know! Alumni can volunteer their time in a variety of ways, from taking a leadership role in reunion planning, serving as a regional club officer, helping a student as a career mentor or encouraging prospective students to pick Lehigh as an alumni admissions outreach volunteer.
