Lehigh launches new online MBA

Lehigh University’s College of Business and Economics is set to launch a new accredited online MBA degree program.
With concentrations in project management and supply chain management, Lehigh’s new online MBA degree program is aimed at educating students who are prepared to lead in a complex and ever-changing business environment.
According to Thomas Hyclak, interim dean of the College of Business and Economics, this online program was developed with the demanding schedules of working professionals in mind.
“Lehigh’s online MBA program stands apart from other programs in a significant way -- it will provide a flexible learning environment for busy individuals while directly mirroring the university’s established, reputable, Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business accredited on-campus program,” Hyclak says. “In fact, the faculty who will provide instruction for the new online program will be the same as those who teach on campus.”
Designed to be completed in two years, students of the online program will complete the same curriculum as their on-campus counterparts. In addition, the academic and admissions requirements for the online MBA program are identical to the requirements of the on-campus program.
According to Mary Theresa Taglang, director of recruitment and admissions for Lehigh’s College of Business and Economics MBA program, online students want the same strong curriculum offered on campus.
“The opportunity to experience the same curriculum and faculty is an enormous value to students who desire a singular academic experience but are constrained by their careers,” Taglang says.
The program will also feature a residency component which brings students together on Lehigh’s campus three times during the course of the program.
“Maintaining a connection to campus is an important element for students enrolled in an online program,” Taglang says. “Lehigh is committed to a quality learning experience. To ensure this, we developed a cohort-based program, so students can build relationships and network as they achieve success. ”
Students enrolled in the program will use a web site designed exclusively for them, which allows for total virtual immersion while maintaining a connection to campus.
Taglang notes that there will be plenty of opportunities for students to interact with each other and with their professors through the residencies and web-enabled conferencing, but to ensure students are provided with the guidance needed, the online MBA will also feature an online graduate assistant.
“A unique element to Lehigh’s program is that we will provide an online graduate assistant who will serve as a resource to the online students looking for non-academic guidance,” Taglang says. “We are not aware of any other online MBA that offers this service.”
Applicants must have completed a four-year undergraduate degree in any of a wide variety of areas to be eligible to apply including the humanities, the social sciences, the physical sciences and engineering, as well as business. Professional work experience is also considered as part of the admissions decision.
Applications for the first online MBA class are due by August 15; however, applications for the program will be accepted on a year-round basis.
