The editors of BusinessWeek magazine have once again named Lehigh’s College of Business and Economics as one of the nation’s premier undergraduate business programs.

The College of Business and Economics captured 20th place after scoring “A-plus” in both teacher quality and job placement. Lehigh also earned an “A” in facility and services, and ranked 15th overall in academic quality.

“For those of us who have invested in the development of the college over the years, the ranking confirms what we already know—that our program is fundamentally strong and positions our students for a lifetime of learning and leadership,” says Tom Hyclak, interim dean.

The college has seen strong interest from both prospective students and the business community in recent years. Applications to the college have increased 64 percent in the past decade—29 percent in the past year alone.

This is the second year that BusinessWeek has ranked the nation’s undergraduate schools. In the inaugural rankings, Lehigh earned the 18th spot.

This year, the magazine’s editors analyzed college data and surveyed about 80,000 college seniors and 466 corporate recruiters before coming to their decision. BusinessWeek also surveyed 32 additional schools that did not participate in 2006.

According to BusinessWeek, Lehigh’s “strong accounting program wins student praise, but many say they could use more advanced computer training.”

BusinessWeek has posted the college’s institutional profile and Lehigh is also included in a collection of slideshows from the nation’s top 25 programs, in which Lehigh is called a “tight-knit group” that offers students “a diverse but centralized campus life while preparing them for A-list job placement.”
