Lehigh drops tough overtime game against Cornell

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh dropped its second straight game on Sunday, a tough 2-1 decision in double overtime against Cornell at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Gina Test scored the game-winner at the 86:40 mark of the second overtime to lift the Big Red to the win. Lehigh falls to 5-7 on the season, while Cornell improves its record to 3-7.
The Mountain Hawks got on the board first when senior captain Blaire Goodwin knocked in her ninth goal of the season at the 29:52 mark off a beautiful lead pass from junior Sheila Clabby. Lehigh was out shot by the Big Red six to four in the first half. The Mountain Hawks would retain the lead until the 39:19 mark of the second half when Kimmy Gardner netted a goal to tie the game at one. The game would remain tied until Testa scored the game winner at the to give the Big Red the win.
Head Coach Julie Mazer knows that the upcoming stretch of Patriot League games will be tough, and will be getting her team ready for the competition. We adjusted well from yesterday (3-1 loss to Bucknell), but we have to execute and finish better. Our execution on corners must be better as well. Mazer adds, We must be prepared to work extremely hard for the upcoming stretch of games we have. It’s a good chance to see how mentally tough we are, and how we can bounce back from such a tough loss.
Junior Jeanine Hoff and sophomore Meghan Gove split time in the cage, with Hoff picking up four saves and Gove sending back 10 shots. The Big Red had 23 shots on the afternoon compared to Lehigh’s 10.
Lehigh returns to action on Wednesday when they travel south to take on Patriot League foe Georgetown. Game time is set for 3:30.
