Kulick earns Pool scholarship

The $9,000 Pool Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students interested in a career in business and who have exhibited entrepreneurial talents typified by Pool, the late chairman of Air Products & Chemicals Inc. in Allentown. Pool received an honorary doctorate of engineering from Lehigh in 1961 and served on the university’s board of trustees for several years.
Kulick is a student in Lehigh’s College of Arts and Sciences, where he is studying Science, Technology and Society. He applied to the scholarship after seeing an advertisement in The Brown and White.
I heard about (the scholarship) through an ad in the school newspaper and I went, ‘That’s me!’ says Kuclik, a self-described worker boy who had his first business card by the age of four.
By the time he turned 11, Kulick had his own landscaping company named Leaf it to Us, and started spending time as a technical assistant with a professional theater group. Within three years, Kulick put his knowledge of lighting, construction and electricity to work in another business called The Light Man, a lighting company specializing in theatrical supplies.
After several incarnations, Kulick’s lighting company, now called Entertainment Technologies, is a full-service sales, rentals, and design and production company catering to the needs of theatrical venues and special events. Still in its formative years, Kulick hopes his Norristown, Pa., business will become a full-time career after he graduates, but says he will not be devastated if the company does not succeed.
That’s my hope, but I know that might not be possible, Kulick says. I regard the real-life experience that I am gaining now as being priceless.
The $9,000 scholarship will be credited toward Kulick’s Lehigh account for tuition for the 2003-04 academic year.
