ISE Leadership Lecture Series speakers discuss perseverance and commitment
Perseverance, commitment and persistence were the three main concepts that business partners Lauren Bush and Ellen Gustafson discussed during the IE 382 (Leadership Development) course on March 11, 2009.
Their non-profit FEED Projects, LLC started in 2006 made the FEED 100 bags that are sold in Whole Foods Markets. They sold 420,000 eco-friendly bags, which provided Rwandan children participating in the UN’s 2008 World Food Program school lunch operation for one year.
What was great about their discussion was that an idea can go a long way, said Michael Ratajczyk ’09G. It's the approach that you take in leadership and business that ultimately leads to success.
The business partners talked with ISE students, faculty and staff about how staying committed to the cause and persistent with their company, is how they are successful today and are still expanding their organization. Bush and Gustafson have future plans of focusing on nourishment programs and expanding their FEED 100 program to other countries.
I think their persistence is inspiring and a good lesson that hard work pays off, said Robert Cant ’09. If you care about what you are doing and don't give up, you can accomplish great things and see some very big dreams realized in the end. The two of them have helped thousands of people in a very big way.
Their talk arrived on the heels of a presentation made by Paul Rusesabagina, the inspiration for the film Hotel Rwanda, concerning the country's 1994 genocide.
