Global microfinance symposium set for Wednesday

As part of its globalization series, the Martindale Center in the College of Business and Economics is sponsoring “Encouraging Sustainable Development: A Symposium on Global Microfinance,” from 2-6 p.m. Wednesday in Rauch Business Center.
This symposium, organized by Ira Lieberman (Lehigh ’64), brings together some of the world’s leading experts on the subject of credit and savings services for the poor. Panelists will discuss what has been called the “microfinance revolution” and the decades of work they have done to establish thriving microfinance programs enabling people in Latin America, Asia, Africa, and Eastern Europe to become successful entrepreneurs.
Panelists include Marguerite S. Robinson, Institute Fellow Emeritus, Harvard University’s Institute for International Development; Anne Hastings, Director, FONKOZE, a microfinance organization in Haiti; Elisabeth Rhyne, Sr. Vice President of ACCION International; Richard Rosenberg, Sr. Policy Advisor, CGAP, a division of the World Bank, and Ira Lieberman, President of LIPAM International.
