Georgette Chapman Phillips, the Kevin L. and Lisa A. Clayton Dean of the College of Business and Economics, has been chosen from a competitive field of national nominees as an Arthur Vining Davis Fellow. She will join 26 other fellows from around the country at the 2016 Aspen Ideas Festival, which will be held from June 26 to June 29 in Aspen, Colorado.
Phillips was selected by Aspen Institute leaders from nominees who are leaders from a wide variety of backgrounds and who represent the entrepreneurial spirit, intellectual curiosity and leadership qualities of Arthur Vining Davis, the longtime CEO of the Alcoa Corporation.
“This is an exciting opportunity to represent Lehigh at the table where big ideas are being discussed,” Phillips said.
For nearly 65 years, the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations have provided philanthropy to American higher education, medicine and health care, interfaith leadership and religious pluralism. It also supports public educational media for children and for historical and scientific documentaries for national distribution.
Since 2005, the Aspen Ideas Festival has been the nation’s premier convening of leaders from around the globe and across many disciplines to engage in consideration of ideas and issues that shape our lives and challenge our times.
Through funding provided by the Board of Trustees of the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations, the 2016 AVDF Aspen Fellows will have the opportunity to network with other Festival attendees, including more than 350 thought leaders in science, health, business, politics, religion, technology, the arts, the environment and academia. The Fellows’ presence will enrich the Ideas Festival and will help to inform the philanthropic plans and priorities of the Foundations in the coming years.
“The Aspen Ideas Festival experience is intellectually invigorating and highly engaging,” said Nancy J. Cable, president of the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations. “The Foundations are committed to investing in leaders who have contributed to their fields of expertise. The AVDF Board of Trustees is thrilled to welcome them as our 2016 AVDF Aspen Fellows.”
