Franchini addresses outstanding students at Honors Convocation
John Franchini, a Philadelphia-area attorney and former political science major who graduated from Lehigh with honors in 1997, was the featured speaker at this year’s Honors Convocation on Sunday, April 17 in Packer Memorial Church.
During the program, nearly 600 Lehigh University students were honored for outstanding academic achievement. Recipients of academic awards, as well as juniors and seniors who have attained a 3.5 cumulative average, were recognized.
Franchini, who graduated with a 3.55 GPA, was active during his undergraduate years at Lehigh. During his senior year, he was awarded the University Service Award, the Alumni Association Undergraduate Merit Award, and was named Greek Man of the Year. He also served as class president and was an apprentice for the political science course, “Comparative Politics and Medicine in Society.”
Upon graduation from Lehigh, Franchini went to the University of Virginia School of Law, and earned his J.D. in 2000. While at Virginia, he was the co-director of the Peer Advisor Program and was a winner of the Ritter Scholar Award, which is given to only four students for distinction in honor, character and integrity.
In addition to serving on Lehigh’s Board of Trustees and the university’s Alumni Association’s Board of Directors, Franchini works as an associate in the litigation practice group at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, LLP, spending time in both the Philadelphia and San Francisco offices.
Prior to his current position, he worked in the Office of the Attorney General of New Jersey and the Pennsylvania Office of General Counsel. He was selected as one of three fellows nationally to participate in a Public Interest Fellowship and has authored various legal articles. He was part of a team of lawyers and judges in the Inn of Court that was awarded first place nationally for a program relating to current legal issues.
