Founders Day celebrates, showcases excellence

Lehigh students, faculty, alumni, and friends who carry on Asa Packer’s vision will be honored in a Founder’s Day ceremony at 4 p.m. Friday in Packer Church. Following the ceremony, the Lehigh community is invited to enjoy “Founder’s Fest,” a celebration of food and entertainment at Campus Square.
This marks the 126th year of the Founder’s Day ceremony, an annual event to honor hundreds of Lehigh leaders—including members of the Board of Trustees, new deans and faculty in endowed chairs, generous donors, and students—who are selected for their academic pursuits and leadership accomplishments. The Lehigh University Choir will also perform.
The Founder’s Day celebration continues into Saturday, as Lehigh will host the “Showcasing Excellence” academic panel series, featuring faculty experts and distingished alumni speaking on contemporary issues. Panels address topics
ranging from the global economy and biosciences to worldwide threats, education, and the environment. Panels begin at 10:15 a.m. and run for 45 minutes each. All will be held in Rauch Business Center.
Rauch will also serve as the site of the Financial Services Laboratory dedication ceremony, scheduled for 11:15 a.m. The innovative FSL boasts resources such as wall-mounted tickers and real-time feeds from Bloomberg and Reuters streaming into computers on a 15-minute delay, allowing visitors to experience the excitement of real-time stock trading, deal capture, settlements, analytic assessments, pricing, and portfolio management. The FSL will draw together not only business students, but also math, journalism, and engineering majors. The lab will provide valuable tools for faculty research and help attract quality students and faculty.
