Farrington highlights South Side successes

Lehigh University and South Bethlehem's destinies are mutually connected, Farrington said. We share a rich cultural heritage. Lehigh students bring natural enthusiasm and energy to help the college and the community.
The talk was part of the series About South Bethlehem, held the first Monday of each month at the Cathedral Church of the Nativity.
During his 45-minute presentation, Farrington highlighted some of the results produced by the university's partnership with South Bethlehem. He discussed the university's new $23 million Campus Square complex, the South Side beautification project, and the funding and creation of a long-term plan to guide efforts to create a vibrant South Side.
During the question-and-answer segment, Esther Guzman, Bethlehem resident, said, Lehigh's S.T.A.R. program helped my children get their first experience of college. It was extremely beneficial to them.
The S.T.A.R. Academy is made possible through a partnership of Lehigh, participating school districts, area businesses and organizations, and parents--a dedicated group of people and organizations working together to develop students intellectually, socially, spiritually, and emotionally so that they will become productive citizens.
Area residents praised Farrington’s vision of helping create a more vibrant South Side. Four years ago, President Farrington, you spoke of what you wanted to accomplish and it's wonderful to see it happening, said John Callahan, Bethlehem City Council member.
Farrington ended the evening with a commitment to work together to reduce the boundaries and continue fostering good relations with the community.
