Fall in love with Lehigh again

My plan was to sit back and enjoy at least one lazy day of summer. Where has the time gone? Can you believe it’s already Labor Day Weekend? The Philadelphia Eagles have already flown the coop after training camp ended on Aug. 17, and classes for the Fall semester started this week.
Most importantly, if you happened to miss the news, Dr. Alice P. Gast, Lehigh’s 13th president, officially started on Aug. 1. She did a fantastic job greeting the new students and some diehard alumni at the First-Year Student/Alumni Rally on Aug. 26 in Grace Hall. At the Rally, the Class of 1960 formally adopted the Class of 2010. This marks the 60th time a class from 50 years prior has presented its class colors to an incoming class. I was thrilled to take part in this great tradition, and you can read all about the rally and the University Convocation that took place the following night right here. Our excitement, enthusiasm and passion for Lehigh already have Alice bleeding brown and white!
Believe it or not, it is also the time of the year for Lehigh football tailgate parties! Your Alumni Association’s Clubs office has partnered with clubs throughout the region to offer you an exciting afternoon of fun, food and camaraderie at Villanova, Yale, and Holy Cross. For dates, times and all the details, visit our tailgates page on the Web.
If you haven’t done so already, mark your calendars and start thinking about Alumni Weekend, featuring the famous Young Alumni Reunion, on Oct. 20 and 21. We have taken care of all the details, from hotels and transportation to the tents and the food. All you have to do is show up, bring a friend and have fun at events on Friday night at local restaurants, tailgates on Saturday, football vs. Bucknell at 1 p.m. on Saturday, and then all kinds of events on campus Saturday night.

We created a Brush Up series especially with young alumni in mind that highlights the young, fun, and provocative aspects of the arts. Each event in the series includes a cocktail reception, a presentation by a special guest, and time for Q&A. Our Aug. 17 Brush Up with Paul Chou, professor of music and director of the Lehigh University Philharmonic Orchestra, was a smashing success. Paul presented How To Listen To Music Like People Who Really Know Music and the evening was both entertaining and enlightening. Looking ahead, Ricardo Viera, director/curator of the Lehigh University Art Galleries, will present How Much Do You Have to Know to Invest in Art? on Oct. 4, from 6:30–8:30 p.m. at Zoellner Arts Center.
