Do your heart a favor on Valentines Day
The Lehigh community is invited to have a special “Heart to Heart” on Valentine’s Day by attending a health program planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 14, at Lamberton Hall.
“February is American Heart Month,” says Cathy Biggs, a clinical nurse at Lehigh’s Health and Wellness Center and coordinator of the program. “The ‘Heart to Heart’ event is a chance for all members of the Lehigh community to socialize while learning ways to make healthy lifestyle changes in nutrition, weight management, stress relief and smoking cessation, which are all aspects of heart health we can control.”
Programs will include: Blood pressure screenings, total cholesterol screenings, body fat analysis, nutrition information, carbon dioxide testing, smoking cessation programs, heart healthy snacks, employee assistance program information, stress reduction techniques, paraffin wax treatments, massages, and much more.
Ann Marie Crown, Lehigh Valley Hospital’s program coordinator for Heart Help for Women, will speak at noon on issues related specifically to women’s heart health.
All programs are free and open to Lehigh faculty, staff and students.
The “Heart to Heart” event is sponsored by the Lehigh University Health and Wellness Center Peer Educators (Healthy Hawks and Fresh Airs), Human Resources, Sodexho Dining Services, St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Crest Nursing Students, Ann Rutledge – Oswald Alumnus, Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Center.
“This truly is a collaborative effort between the various Lehigh offices, as well as, the larger Lehigh Valley community to raise awareness about heart health,” says Marie Brown, head nurse and health educator at Lehigh’s Health and Wellness Center. “We invite the entire Lehigh campus to come and have a ‘Heart to Heart’.”
