Council for Equity and Community announces Dec. 1 town hall meeting
The Council for Equity and Community (CEC) will host a town hall meeting on Monday, Dec. 1, beginning at noon in Neville Hall 1.
Students, faculty, and staff are invited to join President Alice P. Gast in attending this interactive session. The CEC welcomes everyone to join the discussion on how to make Lehigh a more equitable, hospitable, and diverse community.
The CEC is a 14-member advisory group made up of faculty, staff, and undergraduate and graduate students that reports to the president and to the university’s senior leadership. The council was first convened in late March 2008 and was charged by Gast to implement and sustain university-wide initiatives to build an inclusive community of diversity on campus. The council is co-chaired by Carolina Hernandez, community services director, and Michael Raposa, professor of religion studies.
Raposa urges everyone to bring questions, concerns, and ideas to the meeting. “We as a council realize that we must enlist all our allies—in the dorms, halls, classrooms—in this cause. We look to them not only for their support and ideas, but in many cases for their leadership,” Raposa says.
In addition to soliciting feedback from the campus community, the CEC is anxious to share the progress it has made.
“We want to tell people what we’ve accomplished since our September town hall,” Hernandez says. “Really, it’s all about keeping the lines of communication open.”

Advance registration is not required to attend the town hall. Light refreshments will be available.
