Christmas Vespers brighten holidays Dec. 10
Christmas Vespers, one of Lehigh’s most cherished holiday traditions, will be held at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, in Packer Memorial Church.
The two Christmas Vespers concerts are free, but seating is limited and early arrival—at least 30-45 minutes before each performance—is recommended.
This is our Christmas present to the community, says Lehigh University Choral Arts director Steven Sametz. Many people tell us that this is the start of their holiday season.”
The Vespers program each year features readings and music to celebrate the season. This year’s readings include excerpts from poet Dylan Thomas’ critically acclaimed A Child’s Christmas in Wales, a reminiscent recount of Christmas from a child’s perspective. Dylan Thomas was an accomplished poet and short story writer who published several well-known works, including A Child’s Christmas, Do Not Go Gently Into That Good Night and The Notebook.
Every year for over two decades, Sametz has created a new arrangement of the 16th-century carol, Lo How A Rose E'er Blooming as part of the Vespers tradition.
