A celebration of poetry at Jazzmans
In a celebration of National Poetry Month, the Jazzman’s Readers Series will present Lee Upton, recipient of the National Poetry Series Award, and Ruth Knafo Setton, current Writer in Residence for the Berman Center for Jewish Studies, at a reading at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 14, in Jazzman’s Café on Campus Square.
Upton, who also won the Pushcart Prize for poetry, is the author of nine books. Her fiction and poetry have appeared in the country’s most prestigious journals, including the Atlantic, Antioch, Harvard Review and the Georgia Review. Her most recent book of poetry, “Civilian Histories,” was published by the University of Georgia Press. A forthcoming book of literary criticism will be published by Bucknell Press.
Setton, a poet and fiction writer, is the recipient of a number of distinguished fellowships from organizations such as the National Endowment of the Arts and the MacDowell Writers Colony. Her work has been published in several journals and her first novel, “The Road to Fez,” was published in 2001. She is currently at work on a new novel, and she will read from that work in progress.
