Campus Square wins engineering award

At a a gala celebration on Feb. 6 at the Hotel Hershey in Hershey, Pa., the ACEC/PA presented the Diamond Award of Engineering Excellence, which recognizes projects designed by Pennsylvania consulting engineering firms that enhance the social and economic welfare of the commonwealth and its citizens. A panel of experts judges the engineering, economic, and social value of the projects.
Anthony Corallo, associate vice president for facilities services and campus planning, accepted the award along with Barry Isett, CEO, and James Pudleiner G'82, president, of Barry Isett & Associates. The consulting engineering firm was a key player in the design of Campus Square, which features apartment-style suites, the new University Bookstore, an ice cream parlor, a coffee shop, a restaurant, a parking garage, and a large community plaza.
Lehigh University is very proud and honored to receive the Diamond Award for Engineering Excellence along with Barry Isett & Associates, Inc., Corallo says. It is indeed a noteworthy testament to the innovative aesthetic and technical design skills of Isett & Associates.
Hailed as a bridge connecting Lehigh with the surrounding South Side Bethlehem community, Corallo feels that Campus Square is deserving of the prestigious award.
Campus Square was an extremely important, high-visibility project not only for Lehigh, but for the entire community as well, and it is truly gratifying to see both the project and the design professionals get the recognition that they so rightly deserve, Corallo says.
Pudleiner, who received his masters in structural engineering from Lehigh, is particularly proud of the project.
Receiving a prestigious award like the Diamond Award is an honor, and it's great to be recognized, he says. Isett & Associates has done a lot of work on the Lehigh campus, including the renovations of the Packer Church, the University Center bell tower, and Linderman Library. But it's great to be recognized for the Campus Square project because it is Lehigh's vision for the future. It was especially an honor for me to be involved because of the time I spent at Lehigh as a student.
