Bill Frisell Trio plays Zoellner Sept. 19
On Friday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m., Zoellner Arts Center presents the Bill Frisell Trio. The trio, consisting of Frisell playing alongside Tony Scherr and Rudy Royson, will be perform a mix of rock, country, jazz and blues.
“I like to have fun when I play,” Frisell told the Village Voice. “And I like comedy—but it’s not a conscious thing. I’m basically a pretty shy person and I don’t dance or get into fights. But there are all these things inside me that get out when I perform. It’s like a real world when I play, where I can do all the things I can’t do in real life.”
Frisell has worked with Paul Motian, John Zorn, Elvis Costello, Ginger Baker, The Los Angeles Philharmonic, Suzanne Vega, Marianne Faithful, John Scofield, Jan Garbarek, Lyle Mays, Vernon Reid, and Julius Hemphill, and has established himself as a perpetually pursued guitarist.
Frisell was born in Baltimore, Md. and raised in Denver, Colorado. He played clarinet as a child in Denver, but later discovered a passion for guitar after being exposed to pop music on the radio. He pursued his passion for music at the University of Northern Colorado, and continued into Berklee College of Music in Boston. He later lived in Belgium for a year, in order to concentrate in writing music. During this period, he toured and recorded with other select artists. Currently based in Seattle, he continues to hone his skills and tours periodically.
