Bernadette Peters headlines Gala2005

Bernadette Peters, a two-time Tony winner, is one of Broadway's few superstars.
Her career spans Sondheim's Sunday in the Park With George and Into the Woods, Jerry Herman's Mack and Mabel, Andrew Lloyd Webber's Song and Dance, as well as Annie Get Your Gun and Gypsy, for which she received her third Tony nomination, third Drama Desk Award and an Outer Critics Circle award for her electrifying role as Mama Rose.
I never wanted to limit myself, Peters says. From the start, I wanted to reach a bigger audience. So I took advantage of whatever opportunities were there—variety shows, TV movies, feature films. Wherever I was drawn in terms of the material, themes and characters.
The multi-talented Peters will headline this year’s Gala2005 at Zoellner Arts Center at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. Zoellner will be dressed for the occasion, sporting the theme “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” echoing the well-known song from Gypsy.
Gala2005 is a benefit to support more than 100 music and theatre department and guest artist performances and gallery exhibits. The Gala evening includes a cocktail reception, fine dinner and premium concert seats. Black tie is optional. All tickets include the post-show dessert reception in the lobbies.

When Peters takes the Zoellner stage, she will be backed up by several Lehigh faculty members. The orchestra in support of Bernadette Peters will feature:

• Paul Chou (violin), associate professor, Ronald J. Ulrich Chair in Orchestral Music; director, Lehigh Philharmonic
• David Diggs (tenor sax, oboe, English horn), lecturer; director, Wind Ensemble
• Bill Warfield (trumpet) associate professor; director, LU Jazz
• David Brandom (alto sax), adjunct professor
Additionally, Ben McGehee, a Tulane University transfer student and talented blues pianist, will perform during the cocktail reception.
Tickets are available for the 8 pm concert and dessert reception at: $200 for excellent seats including a Gala program listing as “Fans of Bernadette Peters” ($125 tax deductible); $100 for standard seats ($25 tax deductible); and $60 for students. General ticket sales cover less than a quarter of Zoellner’s expenses.
