Award-winning Jewish author discusses works Thursday

Award-winning author Steve Stern will read from and discuss several of his works of fiction at 4:15 p.m. Thursday in Room 200 of Linderman Library.
At the talk, which is free and open to the public, Stern will read from Lazar Malkin Enters Heaven, A Plague of Dreamers, and The Wedding Jester. The talk is sponsored by the Berman Center for Jewish Studies and Lehigh’s Department of English.
A highly regarded author, Stern has earned a distinctive place in modern American Jewish fiction by retrieving such Jewish worlds as the Catskills, the Lower East Side, and an immigrant Jewish community in Memphis known as “The Pinch.” His writing is known for its unique blend of magic realism, fantastic humor, and wonderful storytelling.
In addition to winning the 1999 National Jewish Book Award for The Wedding Jester, Stern’s honors include two New York Times Notable Books designations, a Pushcart Writer’s Choice Award, an O. Henry Prize, and the Edward Lewis Wallant Award for Jewish American Fiction. Stern teaches creative writing at Skidmore College.
