‘The Rivalry’ Hits New York
On Saturday afternoon in New York's Yankee Stadium, Lehigh will be looking to end their season with a win over longtime rival Lafayette. Join the social media discussion about the big game by visiting the Rivalry 150 website.
Longstanding rivals Lehigh and Lafayette are about to make college football history.
On Saturday, Nov. 22, the Mountain Hawks and the Leopards will clash at New York’s Yankee Stadium, resuming their annual football grudge match on one of the biggest stages in American sports.
But while every meeting of the series known simply as ‘The Rivalry’ is important, this year’s clash will carry extra weight. That’s because Saturday’s game will mark the 150th playing of the series, which is the single most played rivalry in all of college football.
In fact, entering this season, the Mountain Hawks and the Leopards had played 19 more times than Harvard had played Yale, 32 more times than Auburn had played Georgia, 35 more times than Navy had played Army and 39 more times than Ohio State had played Michigan. In a sport built on rivalry, in other words, The Rivalry is truly without compare.
This year’s game is completely sold out, which means a crowd of nearly 50,000 will be on hand as Lehigh and Lafayette look to end their season in the best way possible—with a win over their historic archrival. The game will also be broadcast to a nationwide audience on the CBS Sports Network.
For those who are attending the game, or those who are going to be watching from home or along with their fellow Lehigh alumni all over the globe, this page will provide everything you need to know about Saturday’s big game, the weekend of events that will surround it, the history of the game and more. Check back here all week for updates.
