Celebrating Giving Tuesday
First there was "Black Friday," then "Cyber Monday," then "Small Business Saturday." Now, there's a chance to take a break from consumerism, consider the less fortunate and take part in "Giving Tuesday."
According to the United Way, more than 27,000 organizations in 68 countries came together to celebrate Giving Tuesday last year, and the tradition is only expected to grow. Since its founding in 2012, #GivingTuesday has inspired giving around the world, resulting in greater donations, volunteer hours and activities that bring about real change in communities.
At Lehigh, we know many faculty, staff and students pitch in to help others through the Community Service Office's Holiday Hope Chest program, coat drives, the C.O.A.C.H. program, the LUPD's Shop with a Cop program, toy collections and more.
Is your office adopting a family, organizing a food drive, or volunteering somewhere during this year's Giving Tuesday? Does your fraternity, sorority, club or organization do something special for others during the holidays? Are you donating any clothes, toys or food?
We want to know all about them, and share the good works. So on Giving Tuesday (today, Dec. 1st), we're asking you to let us know what you are doing here at Lehigh and beyond. Please tag your Tweets or Instagram posts with #LehighGiving to spread the word and to inspire fellow members of the Lehigh community.
