Alastair McAulay recognized for technical publication

Alastair McAulay, professor of electrical and computer engineering, recently received a “Commendation for Excellence for Technical Communications” from Laser Focus World for an article he wrote for the journal’s November 2005 issue.

The article was titled “Nonlinear microring resonators forge all-optical switch.”
The journal summarized the main points of the article as follows:
“Several interconnected all-optical microring resonators fabricated in silicon on a silica chip mimic the cost and performance improvements of very large-scale integration. Use in application will need careful consideration of design approaches, lithographic resolution and microring size.”
McAulay is a faculty member with Lehigh’s Center for Optical Technologies, which supported his research. He also received support from Optiwave, an Ottawa-based provider of optical simulation software for the fiber optics industry.
McAulay, a Fellow of the International Society for Optical Engineering, conducts resesarch in optical networking and computing.
