Finance and administration announces staffing changes

Barry Gaal, associate vice president for business services, is planning to retire on Nov. 30. To create a more realistic organizational structure for the future and to make up for the many years of experience Gaal brought to the position, the business services group will be split into two units.
In addition, David Joseph, currently director of residential services, will take over dining services and serve as director of student auxiliary services in addition to his current areas of residential service (including undergraduate and graduate, on and off campus), conference services, the child care center, vending, laundry, rental properties and guest housing.
And there will be some restructuring within residential services and conference services as well. Ozzie Breiner, currently associate director of residential services, has been promoted to director of residential services. A search for an associate director to fill Breiner’s present position is currently underway.
In addition, Chris Bell, currently a residence life coordinator in the Dean of Students Office, has been named to the new position of assistant director of residential services. This new position is in response to the variety of changes anticipated on campus due to the Greek Life Task Force implementation report. This position will also allow residential services to deal with issues and concerns in a more comprehensive manner and help to create a more realistic and coordinated housing organizational structure.
The last organizational change in residential services and conference services is related to the position held by Mary Kay Baker, manager of conference services. Her new title will be director of conference and special housing services, and her responsibilities will include conferences, summer camps, guest housing, rental properties and special projects.
Regarding Gaal’s other responsibilities, a new position has been created—director of business services—which will assume responsibility for the bookstore, parking services, printing/mailing, purchasing, Stabler Arena, transportation and travel. This position will be posted shortly and a suitable candidate should be identified by late October/early November. This will allow for some time to overlap with Gaal prior to his retirement.
The reorganization within residential services/conference services will be effective Oct. 1.
