Sustainability Minor Overview

Human activities are a driving force of environmental change on Earth. The resources that allow societies to flourish (water, fossil-fuel energy, minerals, food, ecosystem services) are finite and not equally accessible. Population growth, environmental degradation, climate change, and the extremes of poverty and wealth, present significant challenges to human health and well-being. They also offer tremendous opportunity for innovation in moving toward sustainable practices.

The minor in sustainability provides students with the opportunity to explore the concepts and practice of sustainability from an interdisciplinary perspective. Sustainability means to live in ways that do not diminish or degrade the ability of future generations to lead healthy productive lives, adopting practices that sustain the environment and natural resources on which we depend, and making communities economically stronger, socially diverse, and equitable.
