Musician and visual artist to perform pieces about the Bible’s least sung heroines

Lehigh University’s Philip and Muriel Berman Center for Jewish Studies will present “Gathering Sparks: The Visual Art of Siona Benjamin and The Music of Galeet Dardashti” on Sunday, April 5 at 3 p.m. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place at Sinclair Auditorium, located at 7 Asa Drive in Bethlehem, PA.
Benjamin is a Mumbai (formerly Bombay) native who now resides in the U.S. Her work reflects her Jewish upbringing in a country predominantly Hindu and Muslim. Dardashti is a Middle Eastern vocalist who draws inspiration from the musical and cultural landscapes of the Middle East and some of the provocative yet unsung women of the Bible who lived there.
During the performance, Benjamin and Dardashti will present their unique and compelling artistic and musical renderings of the women of the Bible. This acoustic and multimedia event will feature haunting music and vivid video projections. Following the performance, the artists will take questions from the audience.
