He will always have our gratitude, friendship and support.

For 13 seasons, he strode the sidelines at Goodman Stadium.

Along the way, Andy Coen won 85 games—tied for most in school history—and led his Mountain Hawks to five Patriot League championships. He was named Patriot League Coach of the Year twice, and his record against that school over in Easton was a sterling 9-4, including a resounding 34-3 win this year.

But as it turned out, that win over the Leopards would be Coen’s last: A few weeks later, Coen announced that he was stepping down as Lehigh’s football coach due to a diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. He leaves behind a legacy of success not only as a coach, but as a mentor and leader of young men.

Said Lehigh Dean of Athletics Joe Sterrett ’76: “He is deeply respected by the men who played for him and those who worked with or for him, and by his many colleagues in the Lehigh Athletics Department. He will always have our gratitude, friendship and support.”
